The Swans at Glasgow Pond

by Jack Conway

The swans at Glasgow Pond look painted onto the ice

formed along the banks. I would like to thank

whoever drew them there; their bright white feathers

ruffled in the winter weather backdrop of the freshly

fallen snow. And even though it’s cold I go walking

through the fields. They stir a bit as if to let me know

they’re real. Some lives seem painted, too, against the

clear blue slip of sky and jagged pines. I would surmise

that someone watching in another time or place might

make the same mistake in contemplating what they’d

seen and think that I was drawn into this landscape scene.
